I
am currently junior status in Baruch College. I plan to graduate next year with
a degree in Corporate Communications. My first career objective is getting a
high GPA (3.5) for the rest of time at Baruch, my second goal is to get an
internship within the next year, and my third goal is to graduate from Baruch in
May 2014.
Working
hard throughout the semester will contribute to getting a high GPA. Having a
high GPA will help me achieve my other future goals. A strength that will help
me achieve these goals is that I like to be prepared for my exams; therefore I
put a lot of time and effort into creating review sheets/ flashcards to help me
do well. Also, now that I have declared my major I have more interesting
classes, so I find myself caring more about my recent classes than I have in
the past. My weakness is when a test is in front of me I make careless mistakes
due to rushing Also, I get distracted often while doing work. I think these are some of the things
that have held me back in the past and I plan to try hard to look over my work
and do the best possible job I can to achieve a high GPA for the rest of my
time at Baruch and life’s tasks overall in my life
Gaining
an internship will give me experience and create social networks, which will
hopefully help me find my path for my career. A weakness that can hold me back
from getting an internship is, I always assume since I don’t have experience,
people don’t want me, so I do not try my hardest to look for internships. I
always wait for things to come to me, and in this case that is not going to
happen. I need to get out there through the Internet etc. and apply everywhere
in order to find an internship. Also, I am lazy and that contributes to not
putting enough effort in to finding an internship. A strength for me would be,
when getting the internship I will put my full effort in to do well and
succeed, the dilemma for me is getting my foot in the door.
Graduating
form Baruch in May 2014 is my plan. Strengths that I have to lead me to
graduation in 2014 are my motivation to do well, pass all my classes and finish
college. Also, I have planned what courses I need to take, which helps me be
organized with what I need to do for the next year and a half. Some weaknesses
are, I usually have taken 4 classes each semester so taking 5 may be a struggle
for me. Also, I have no room to slack off, fail or drop any classes or it will
delay my graduation.
Plan of Action:
To Achieve a 3.5 GPA, I am going to put more effort into my
work. I am going to devote more time to my studies each day by reading over my work from that day and preparing for the next class. I’m going to focus more on
my work instead of going out with friends. I will not be lazy and do all my work
ahead of time.
To gain an internship, I will put stop being lazy and try and
search for internships with my interests. If I take out time each day and apply
for 1 internship a day, I will (hopefully) eventually hear from someone.
Graduating from Baruch in May 2014 is my plan, I have been
set back a year due to transferring but I believe if I put in 15 credits for
the next 3 semesters as well as taking a summer class I will finish up the
necessary credits I have left for graduation. Also working hard and devoting
myself to my studies for the next year and a half, and not slacking off will
get me closer to graduation
I completely understand the feeling of having a social life and staying focused. Education is very important, but it is also important to set aside time for family and friends. True family and friends will understand that you have to study and those u don't support and encourage you are not real friends. I also understand that you have a timeline which, is really good. However, in life many things may not go as planned. Be prepared for things like dropping a course or an event that may take you away from school for a semester. Lastly, never ever give up. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteEverything seems well thought out and precise! Hopefully you can achieve all that you want. I hope to graduate in May of 2014 as well and am kind of in the same boat as you. Just keep applying to as many internships through starr search and someone will reach out to you. Goodluck and wish you the best.
ReplyDeleteI share your struggle about relevant work experiences. I try to tailor my cover letters so that I mask this aspect and explain how I am going beyond my class assignments to learn more about my career choice. In some ways, you can argue that your experience allows you to come into old problems with a fresh set of eyes. At my current job, I often provide a different perspective because I have backpacked on four continents and I thoroughly understand how foreigners can become overwhelmed quickly.
ReplyDeleteI also like to sit down on Sunday or Monday night and map out a plan for the week and goals for each day. It helps keep me organized and drives me to create more time for things I like to do, such as running.
