A
individual behavior that I wish my former boss would understand is part of the “Big
Five” personality traits concerning openness to experience. This trait is a
person who is open minded, imaginative and open to new ideas. Although this is
not the most important personality trait for a manager, it is very important
for running a successful company. With times changing and technology advancing companies
must adapt to these changes.
My
former job was at a chiropractor office. The office has been open since the 70’s
by the parents of the current chiropractors. Barely any changes have been made
to the place since then. The place is old looking inside and out, needs new
rugs and walls and nobody can convince them to make any changes. Up until 2
years ago, they never used computers for make appointments everything was done
in a book. These are minor changes but can impact a company. I don’t believe
they will loose business over it because they are reliable, excellent
chiropractors. But as new patients come, they will want to be in a place that
looks clean and presentable. If the owners were more open to change and new
ideas within the company the building can be fixed inside and look much cleaner
and have a better overall atmosphere.
That is a difficult position for an employee to be in. I myself have worked for people who only know one way to do things and unfortunately they believe that is the correct way. Successful businesses can only stay that way by keeping themselves at least in the current decade with respect to style and technology.
ReplyDeleteA successful business is a business that can evolve with the time. Time does not forgive and unfortunately some people/business stay in the past. A successful business is one that can evolve itself in the sense of technology, ethics and ideas.
ReplyDeleteI believe if they make a change, they would have more patients. Like you said, when the place look clean and nice, they would have more patients and do better business. Even though they are great chiropractors, it would be difficult to have new patients.
ReplyDeleteI would think that a modernization of the practice would help not only attract new patients, but also liven the atmosphere and vibe for current patients. I would want a doctor so be able to balance classic techniques and a willingness to learn new procedures and develop their skills. He or she can mirror this outlook with a physical space that is open, approachable, and warm. If the style and office is outdated, patients may worry about the quality of the personnel performing the services.
